A gas leak from a train has been repaired, and residents of Gogama can return home.

A rail car was leaking ammonia gas for several hours on Monday, forcing the evacuation of almost a quarter of the community, located between Sudbury and Timmins.

OPP Const. Marc Depatie said about 105 people were evacuated to a community centre on the edge of town.

Crews worked to contain the leak, which was reported to police before 10 a.m. The problem was repaired by 5 p.m.

A spokesman from the town's municipal office said people were evacuated 300 metres around the site as a precautionary measure, including a few streets on each side of the track where the leak took place.

There's no word yet on the cause of the leak.
