Camper Dead Near Lac La Biche: Alberta Man Struck By Part Of Tree During Thunderstorm

LAC LA BICHE, Alta. - A man camping in north-central Alberta has been killed after part of a tree fell during a thunderstorm.

Mounties say it happened around 11 p.m. Wednesday at the Touchwood Lake Campground northeast of Lac la Biche.

A 64-year-old man was trying to secure items at a campsite when part of a tree broke and fell onto the man.

Police say the man is not from the area and was camping with his family.

His name is not being released.

Mounties say there was heavy rain, strong gusts of wind more than 80 kilometres per hour and lots of lightning at the time.
