Police in Chilliwack, B.C., say a 41-year-old man has been charged with abduction after trying to take a four-year-old boy from an apartment building.

Chilliwack RCMP say a man walked into an apartment building in the 9400 block of Williams Street on Tuesday.

The man knocked on several doors until one was answered by a four-year-old boy.

Police say the man walked into the apartment and grabbed a kitten and a toy wrestling belt before trying to leave with the boy, whose startled caregiver followed them to the lobby while calling police.

The man then walked away with just the toy wrestling belt.

Police were called and obtained a description of the man from security video. Officers arrested a suspect a short time later.

Jonathan Lee Landsmen, 41, of Chilliwack, has been charged with abduction of a person under 14. He is being held in police custody until his next court appearance.
