EDMONTON - A man who was trapped for more than 10 minutes in a submerged car is in life-threatening condition after the vehicle went off a busy Edmonton road and plunged into a slough.

Medical officials believe the driver and sole occupant of the car may have suffered a medical crisis before losing control on the southeastern leg of Anthony Henday Drive Thursday afternoon.

Investigators believe the vehicle was eastbound when it veered across the westbound lanes of the road.

They say the car crossed a field before plunging into the water.

The driver was unconscious when he was taken to hospital.
