Mounties say it happened today at the intersection of highways 9 and 21 in Beiseker.
A transport truck was north on Highway 21 and a Honda Civic was going east on Highway 9.
When the two vehicles collided, both struck a parked pickup truck and then all three vehicles hit two highway maintenance workers.
Airdrie Const. Jennifer Morin won't confirm if the dead man was a worker.
She says the driver of the transport had minor injuries and the Civic driver was taken to hospital.
There are stop signs on Highway 21 at the intersection of Highway 9, but none for Highway 9.
Morin says the crash is a reminder to be careful on secondary highways.
"Take your time at intersections regardless of whether you have the controlled intersection or not," she said.
Alcohol is not believed to be a factor. Travellers will face delays if they take those highways this afternoon while police conduct their investigation.
