A woman is dead after being struck by an Amtrak train as it was travelling through White Rock last night.

Police say the woman had been trying to cross the tracks at Marine Drive and Finlay Street, near the White Rock pier, at about 9:15 p.m. PT.

"A woman was crossing the railroad tracks here when she was struck by a northbound Amtrak train," said RCMP Insp. Sandro Colasacco. "It was a tragic accident and our hearts go out to the friends and family of this woman."
