SURREY, B.C. - A Surrey, B.C., woman has been charged in connection with the abduction of a four-month-old baby boy.

Thirty-four-year-old Sarah Maryskag was scheduled to make a court appearance on Wednesday after she allegedly snatched a friend's child from an apartment building.

Transit Police spokeswoman Anne Drennan says the two women were leaving the apartment after having dinner on July 10 and the suspect was allegedly carrying the baby as they waited for an elevator.

Drennan says Maryskag allegedly boarded the elevator, with the door closing before the mother with the stroller could in.

She says the mother went to the lobby on another elevator and when the woman with the baby were nowhere to be seen she and the dinner host left for the nearby SkyTrain station, where an attendant called Transit Police.

Drennan says the host enlisted the help of a security guard at a nearby college, where the suspect with the baby was spotted and arrested after 40 minutes of agony for the mother, who was reunited with her child.
