Alberta Flood Insurance: Liberals Call On Province To Introduce Government-Run Program

CALGARY - The Alberta Liberals are calling on the Redford government to implement a provincial flood insurance program.

MLA Kent Hehr says it's best to have people paying into an insurance plan in order to avoid a run on the public purse.

Hehr says flood insurance programs have been proven to work in the United States and they are needed since no private insurance companies in Canada cover overland flooding.

He says it's almost a certainty that Calgary will flood again in the future and the province needs to be better prepared.
