SEXSMITH, Alta. - Logs were left spilled across a highway in northwestern Alberta after a fatal crash involving a pickup truck and a semi.

RCMP say a 29-year-old man from Grande Prairie was driving the pickup when he turned off Highway 2 into Sexsmith Thursday morning and collided with a logging truck.

The second vehicle was driven by a 30-year-old man from Cleardale, Alta.

Both drivers, who were the lone occupants, were taken to hospital in Grande Prairie, where the younger man died.

The victim's name has not been released.

The highway was closed for a number of hours while crews cleared away the logs and other debris.
