Man shot by police investigating North Surrey fire

A man was shot by a police officer investigating a suspected arson near the Scott Road SkyTrain Station in North Surrey late Thursday night.

Surrey RCMP say that shortly after 10 p.m. PT, the man approached an officer, who was at the scene of the fire near 125 Street and 110 Avenue.

The man was allegedly holding a knife and was ordered to drop it. The officer shot him when he reportedly continued advancing.

The man was taken to hospital in serious condition.

The Independent Investigations Office is investigating.
