2 weekend drownings in Montreal region

Quebec has a seen a total of 34 drownings this year after two weekend deaths.

A father and son boating trip on Lac St-Louis in Dorval took a tragic turn over the weekend.

On Sunday afternoon, the 58-year-old father decided to go for a swim and jumped into the water without a life vest.

The strong current overtook the man.

Despite rescue attempts by his son and other boaters, the man was in cardiac arrest by the time he was pulled back onto the boat, according to Urgences Santé chief of operations Marc-André Gagnon.

Paramedics performed CPR and rushed the man to Lachine hospital, where he was declared dead.

A second drowning on Sunday took place in Longueuil. A 67-year-old man drowned in a residential pool, near Michel-Chartrand park.

Police are investigating that incident.
