OTTAWA - Prime Minister Stephen Harper says he's looking forward to seeing the son born to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Harper issued a statement Monday shortly after the birth of a boy to Prince William and his wife Kate.

First, on Twitter, the prime minister offered heartfelt congratulations to the royal couple.

Then, in an official statement from his office, he said that Canadians are "delighted to learn of the birth."

Calling the birth a new beginning, Harper said it reminds Canadians of the remarkable and enduring relationship shared between their country and the Royal Family.

And, recalling the royal tour by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge two years ago, Harper said Canadians look forward to their return, so they can introduce their child to Canada.
