Although the very opposite could've happened, a new study shows the June flood actually brought out the best in Albertans.
Conducted by Insights West, the online survey shows two thirds of Alberta respondents did something to help those affected by flooding cope with the emergency.
Numbers also show that 43 per cent donated money to the relief effort, while 21 per cent donated foods or goods.
"Practically all respondents (98 per cent) say the effort and generosity of Albertans have brought them pride, and 77 per cent trust that the funds allocated for flood reconstruction will be distributed in a fair and efficient manner," states the study.
The survey also shows a large number of Albertans took in family, friends and even perfect strangers who were left homeless by the flood.
The survey showed that 84 per cent of respondents believe their fellow Albertans behaved well during the event, while 54 per cent went further, describing the actions by their neighbours and fellow Albertans as excellent.
