CALGARY - Human remains found by a Calgary-area land owner in May are those of a woman who was last seen seven years ago.

RCMP say the medical examiner's office has identified the remains discovered near Strathmore as belonging to Maria Rosa Ciciolla.

Ciciolla was last seen on the corner of an intersection in Calgary's southeast in July 2006 and was reported missing the following November.

Police say Ciciolla, who was 35 when she disappeared, was known to have engaged in a high-risk lifestyle.

She was originally from Montreal and moved to Calgary in 1997.

The RCMP serious crimes branch and Calgary Police Service are investigating the circumstances of her death.

Police are asking anyone with information about the woman's whereabouts or activities before she disappeared to call them or get in touch with Crime Stoppers.
