Toronto police say that a man drove toward an officer with his car on Wednesday morning, crashed the vehicle and ran into a cemetery.

According to police, the 21-year-old man had been stopped and an officer was checking his licence plates when the incident unfolded.

Police allege that the driver accelerated at the officer, who was forced to jump out of the way.

The vehicle hit a group of parked cars with people inside.

The man ran into the Mount Pleasant Cemetary, on the south side of the property.

He was soon arrested.

Const. Tony Vella said the man now faces "a number of charges."
