TORONTO - Smartphones have long been able to send mail electronically, but this year Toronto's Festival of Beer is aiming for phones to deliver ale instead.

The long-running event celebrating all things sudsy has replaced its paper pocket guide with an app that is compatible with iPhone and Android devices.

The app, which will be integrated with social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook, will feature an interactive map of Exhibition Place's Bandshell Park, this year's venue, as well as schedules for performers, educational information about the samples available and profiles of even the smallest of attending breweries.

It will also allow guests to become more involved in the festival, as they can provide their own tasting notes and vote on which beers tickled their palates the most. Voting will enter guests for lifetime passes to future editions of Toronto's Festival of Beer.

The app can be downloaded here.

The event will feature more than 200 brands, and is billed as Canada's premier celebration of the golden beverage.

It runs from Friday at 4:30 p.m. to Sunday at 8 p.m.
