CALGARY - A Calgary man is Alberta's newest millionaire after winning more than $9 million on a Lotto 6/49 draw on July 6.
Ngawang Nardechen says he has often teased his dad about playing the lotto and so he didn't expect much after he handed his father $5 to pick him up a ticket for the draw.
"I always poke fun at him about the money he spends on the lottery,'' said Nardechen.
"I ask him, 'How much money would you have if you hadn't spent it on lottery?' He agrees with me, but he has this saying, `You can never win if you don't play.' I can honestly say now that he was right.''
“I was the last one to find out,” said Nardechen. “I came home and my mom was on the phone. I could sense that something is happening and asked what was going on.”
Nardechen was one of two winners who split the $19,733,070.80 jackpot.
Nardechen says he is still deciding how to use the money but says he will spend some of it to take care of his family.
