Abbotsford hit-and-run leaves girl with broken legs

Abbotsford police are looking for the driver of an older white pickup truck after a hit-and-run in Abbotsford left a 17-year-old girl with two broken legs.

Officers were called to the intersection of George Ferguson Way and Gladwin Road shortly before 1 a.m. Saturday.

Two men in a pick-up truck started throwing eggs at three teens who were sitting on a bench at a bus stop, said Abbotsford Police Cst. Ian MacDonald.

"The 17-year-old walked toward the truck to determine why the driver and passenger were doing this. The girl was run over when the truck accelerated," MacDonald said in a statement.

The teen was lying on the road when the vehicle fled, he said. She is in hospital.

MacDonald says there are dozens of witnesses who are helping them to find the driver and vehicle involved in the hit-and-run.

Police say they are also looking at video tape shot by cameras at nearby retail outlets.

Investigators are appealing to anyone with information to call the Abbotsford Police or Crime Stoppers.
