HIGH RIVER, Alta. - Town council in the flood-ravaged community of High River, Alta., has extended the local state of emergency by another week.

The state of emergency was to expire Friday but council decided instead to sign an extension lasting until Aug. 2.

Mayor Emile Blokland says High River is "still in the early stages" of recovering from the disaster.

The entire town was evacuated when it was hit by raging flood waters on June 20.

Work on repairing the flood damage is underway though some in the community have been told their houses are beyond salvaging.
