One of the world's top parks is throwing a three-day party to celebrate its 125th birthday and you're invited.
From August 24-25, five festival zones will be set up throughout the 400-hectare rainforest park featuring headlining acts from Juno award-winning band Arkells to a 67-year summer tradition of "Theatre Under The Stars" at Malkin Bowl.
After a seven year absence, theatre company Boca de Lupo will also return to the park with Fall Away Home, an interactive modern fairytale performance about a girl who falls down a hole through the planet and must find her way home.
So, before the kids are packed off back to school, take the whole family out for free daytime entertainment and family-friendly activities. Did we mention there’s going to be a beer garden?
Some highlights to expect from the festival's five venues:
Live at Second Beach: Your all-Canadian music hot spot during the celebrations. Line up includes Arkells, Born Ruffians and Whistler-raised singer Ali Milner. Food concessions and a licenced beer garden sponsored by Stanley Park Brewery will also be set up to fuel festival goers.
Family Fun at the Arch: A family stage will be set up at the Lumberman’s Arch to entertain kids with performances by Bobs & Lolo, the Purple Pirate, the Vancouver Korean Dance Society and many others.
Memory Lane at the Gardens: Centred around the park’s rose garden and Malkin Bowl, crowds will be given the choice to dive into a singalong to the hit-movie Grease, indulge in performances by Young Shakespeareans or dig into historical tours about little-known facts about Vancouver’s largest urban park.
Brockton Sportspalooza: The city’s more sporty residents can choose between a variety of recreational activities including bike lessons for kids, over-40s rugby, and cricket games.
Lost Lagoons Ecoharmony: At one of the more relaxed venues, organizers have put together a line up that will please art, jazz, and opera lovers featuring performances by folk band Late Thaw and nature walks hosted by the Stanley Park Ecological Society’s Nature House.
