MRC des Collines-de-l'Outaouais said a dog brought home bones to its owner on July 22 in the community of Farrellton in La Pêche, Que.
The owner was at home on Chemin Hogan when the dog returned from a private forestry lot, located at the end of a dead-end road.
Police said Wednesday the bones belonged to George Roseme, a man first reported missing in September 2007.
Roseme, 77, also live on Chemin Hogan about three kilometres from where the bones were found. He disappeared from his La Pêche property after going for a walk, sparking a massive search.
Police said the man's family, who lives in the United States, have been notified.
