For the long weekend, including Friday, the intersection of Eastern Avenue and Cherry Street is closed for streetcar track work in all four directions. It reopens on
Tuesday. Motorists are advised to use Sumach Street to travel east, and Richmond Street to go west, reentering Eastern via Parliament Street.
The Scotiabank Caribbean Carnival Toronto, happening along Lakeshore Avenue this weekend, will also re-direct traffic. Lakeshore is closed in both directions from Colborne Lodge Drive to Strachan Avenue until Sunday at 6 am.
This weekend's closures, though, are only a prelude to the construction that will block off the intersection of King Street and Spadina Avenue for three weeks and then reopen to only one lane until September.
It is for streetcar track repairs, similar to the work done last summer at Queen Street West and Spadina.
The intersection will be fully closed to traffic in all directions from August 6 to August 20, and then will reopen to one-lane of traffic in each direction (two lanes southbound on Spadina) until Sept. 1.
