The girl was coming out of the Walmart in Quartier DIX30 just after 5 p.m. Thursday with her mother and three siblings when she was hit by an SUV.
The girl was taken to hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
Longueil Police Spokesperson Const. Patrick Barriere said the SUV was not going fast, the driver was not impaired and she was not using a cellphone.
He said it simply appears as though the driver couldn't see the little girl because of the height and positioning of the SUV.
Barriere said no charges have been laid against 43 year-old driver of the SUV.
"At any point in this investigation, there was no evidence at all that there was anything criminal in that event," said Barriere. "Unfortunately that was only a sad accident."
The woman, who was with her two children, was taken to hospital where she was treated for nervous shock.
