Singer, photographer among 10 new recipients of Order of New Brunswick

FREDERICTON - Singer Edith Butler and photographer Freeman Patterson are among 10 new recipients of the Order of New Brunswick.

The 2013 recipients were named today by Premier David Alward as part of New Brunswick Day celebrations.

Butler, from Paquetville, was given the honour for her contributions to the advancement of Acadian culture and heritage while Patterson, who is from Kingston, was recognized for his talent and renown as a photographer.

Joanna Bernard of the Madawaska Maliseet First Nation was recognized for her work on behalf of First Nations communities in the province, while Dr. Dana Hansen of Fredericton was recognized for his leadership in the medical profession.

Alida Clement, Eugene Durette, Jean Irving, Gerry Pond, Gordon Porter and Lionel Poitras were also named to the order.

A ceremony to present the awards will be held later in the fall.
