VANCOUVER - BC Coroners Service has named 57-year-old Gabriole VanKeith as the woman who fell from the Stawamus Chief in Squamish last weekend.

The coroners service says the Vancouver woman was hiking alone on the Black Dyke trail when she fell to her death.

Other hikers in the area saw the woman fall and within 30 minutes, search and rescue personnel were able to find the woman's body to confirm she died at the scene.

VanKeith had no identification on her body and police first described her as a woman in her 30s with dark curly hair.

Eventually, she was identified through information gathered after her vehicle was found nearby.

The coroners service says it is still investigating the death.
