Blue Jays place Juan Perez on disabled list

The Blue Jays have placed reliever Juan Perez on the disabled list with an elbow injury and recalled Mickey Storey.

Perez left Friday night's loss to the Oakland Athletics with a left elbow injury that manager John Gibbons said Saturday could be serious. Gibbons didn't have a full evaluation because Perez must wait for the swelling to go down before travelling to Florida to have the elbow examined.

The 34-year-old left-hander is 1-3 with a 3.69 ERA in 19 appearances this season for Toronto. He has spent most of his professional career in the minor leagues.

Storey, a 27-year-old righty, appeared in two games this season, pitching 3 2/3 innings with a 7.36 ERA. Gibbons envisions Storey as a long reliever this time around, calling him a "strike-thrower."

Storey is available for Saturday afternoon's game against Oakland.
