Kayakers rescued after winds capsize boats in Lac St-François

About a dozen kayakers racing in the Chaudière-Appalache region were rescued this morning after gusts of wind capsized their boats

The Sûreté du Québec received a call at about 9:30 a.m. today after several kayaks tipped over in Lac St-François right before the finish line.

Police said no one was seriously injured, but many of the kayakers are being treated for hypothermia.

They were participating in a competition in St-Joseph-de-Coleraine, near Thetford Mines.

Some of the kayakers were able to make their way to the shore on their own, but others had to wait for help.
