Suspect in St-Léonard stabbing faces attempted murder charge

A 32-year-old man faces charges of attempted murder after two people were stabbed early Friday morning in Montreal's St-Léonard borough.

At about 4:30 a.m. on Friday, a 25-year-old woman and her friend were stabbed in a home on Chailly Street.

Police Const. Danny Richer said the woman was stabbed several times in the upper body.

Richer said the woman was in critical condition but her condition is now stable.

Her friend, a 38-year-old man, was also injured, but his wounds were not life-threatening.

The suspect, who turned himself in, is believed to be the victim's ex-boyfriend.

The suspect is known to police and is expected to appear in court today to be formally charged by videoconference.
