FOGO ISLAND, N.L. - The mayor of Fogo Island, N.L. says he's not surprised by delays caused to ferry travellers earlier this week.

Several hundred frustrated travellers were left stranded on Fogo after the ferry made its final run on Tuesday.

Mayor Gerard Foley says with tourism on the island in the summer, heavy traffic and delays are to be expected.

Foley say's he's spoken with Department of Transportation and Works about the high volumes of traffic during the peak tourism season.

He says the island recommended a two ferry system for the summer, but there isn't a second vessel available.
