MORDEN, Man. - A new nursing home for southern Manitoba will increase the number of personal care home beds in the region.

A new 100-bed facility will replace the current 60-bed home that serves the Morden-Winkler area.

It will feature enlarged single resident bedrooms with private washrooms and spaces for dining, daily activities, recreation and large gatherings.

It will also have a special unit to safely accommodate the needs of seniors with more complex needs such as severe dementia or behavioural management issues.

The new home will be located next to a private, assisted-living facility, creating an opportunity for a seniors’ campus with personal care home, supportive housing and private housing options.

Construction is expected to begin in the spring or summer of 2014.
