Quebec provincial police are asking for the public to help track down an escaped convict.

Karl Gagnon, 36, escaped from the Chicoutimi detention centre on Saturday morning.

Saguenay police say they believed the inmate scaled the prison wall during an outdoor break and fled on foot.

Gagnon was serving a sentence at the Chicoutimi detention centre for breaking and entering and mischief.

He was eligible for release in 2016.

Police say the man is a black 36-year-old, who weighs about 180 pounds and stands 6’2” tall.

He has black hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a red sweater, shorts and black socks when he escaped.

Gagnon also has several tattoos, including one on his left knee that says 'F--k You.'

He also has a tattoo of a rose on his right leg and a tattoo of a flower on his left calf.

Anyone with information is asked to call the criminal information centre at 1-800-659-4264.
