VERNON, B.C. - RCMP say a 95-year-old man is facing a murder charge after a deadly assault at a care facility in the B.C. Interior.

Police were called about an assault at the Vernon Jubilee Hospital's residential care facility on Sunday night.

An 85-year-old man died of his injuries.

RCMP spokesman Gord Molendyk said John Furman made his first appearance on a charge of murder on Monday, when he was ordered into custody until his next appearance on Wednesday.

An autopsy on the victim is expected to be completed the same day, Molendyk said.

"His name is not being released at this time, and the Serious Crime Unit is continuing with this homicide investigation at the extended care facility," he said. (The Canadian Press, CHNL)
