Crews clear equipment from sinkhole repair site

A segment of road in downtown Montreal is closed today as crews remove equipment brought in to repair a sinkhole in one of the city's busiest thoroughfares.

Guy Street was closed between René-Lévesque & De Maisonneuve at 9 am and will reopen at 10 pm.

According to workers on site, crews are removing equipment brought in to pump water out of the sinkhole before repairs got underway.

The hole appeared at the corner of Ste-Catherine and Guy Street on the morning of Aug. 5, swallowing a backhoe. A worker operating the backhoe was unhurt.

Workers are on the scene 16 hours a day, and the city says it will take about one more week patch up the road.
