A video posted to YouTube by office workers shows Vancouver police shooting a distraught man on the grounds of the city's art gallery.
A shirtless man can be seen pacing around, clearly agitated, as a police officer follows him at some distance.
The office workers watching from an adjacent building can be heard discussing the event.
"Here it comes," one of them says, as the police officer follows the man.
"Taser. Taser," another urges, as the workers speculate on whether the man has a needle.
More officers arrive on site with guns and a voice can be heard saying they are beanbag shooters: "Bean bag gun. This could be awesome."
"Take him out, man," someone says, just before the man is shot and those watching cheer.
The shot, which appeared to hit the man in the mid-section, knocked him down and police were able to apprehend him.
The incident took place on August 12, and police said that the man was intimidating pedestrians in the area and also threatened officers.
According to The Province newspaper, the bullet was fired from a 12-gauge Remington shotgun at a velocity equivalent to being hit by a ball thrown by a major-league baseball pitcher.
