VERNON, B.C. - The Mounties in Vernon, B.C., are releasing the name of an 85-year-old man who died from injuries he allegedly suffered in an assault at a local care home.

Police say the family of William May wanted his name released so the public would know the long-time local resident's identity.

Police say the incident occurred Sunday night at the Vernon Jubilee Hospital's residential care facility.

A suspect, 95-year-old John Furman, has been charged with murder.

Furman is a decorated veteran from the Second World War, has advanced dementia, and is having his mental state assessed by experts to determine how the case will proceed.

Furman's lawyer appeared on his behalf Wednesday, and the case is scheduled to be back in court Sept. 25. (CKIZ/The Canadian Press)
