BELLA BELLA, B.C. - Police say the First Nations community of Bella Bella, B.C., is in shock after someone caused $100,000 in damage to a school almost ready to reopen following an upgrade.

RCMP Const. Lesley Smith says a male suspect entered the school at about 4 a.m. Friday and went on a rampage, smashing TVs, smart boards, computers and windows.

Paint was also dumped on the floors and computers at the school for Kindergarten to Grade 12 students.

Smith says the rebuilding process at Bella Bella Community School began a year ago and the children are visibly upset about the senseless violence just days before classes resume.

Police are still investigating a fire that destroyed the only grocery store in town in July.

About 170 students attend the school.
