VERNON, B.C. - The RCMP say a B.C. man has been arrested and faces child-luring charges after a sting operation that began online.

The Mounties say a man in his 50s from Vernon believed he was communicating with a young boy on the Internet, but it was actually an investigator with the RCMP's child-exploitation unit.

A news release says the exchanges became increasingly inappropriate and sexual in nature over the course of several weeks.

The man was arrested last week at a restaurant in Vernon.

Police also seized an electronic device, which will be analysed by investigators.

Charges have yet to be officially sworn, but that is expected to happen by the time he makes his next court appearance on Sept. 19.
