Quebec highway worker dies in roadside incident

A 19-year-old road worker died overnight while placing traffic cones on Highway 40 west of Montreal.

The incident happened at about 3 a.m. near St-Lazare.

According to Quebec provincial police, the truck driver noticed that his colleague was no longer on board the vehicle.

That’s when he discovered the body underneath the truck.

“We’re still looking at what happened at the time. Was he struck? Did he fall off? It still remains to be determined,” says Sûreté du Québec Sgt. Daniel Thibaudeau.

The Sûreté du Québec and the province’s workplace health and safety board are investigating.
