A 35-year-old Laval mother of four has been arrested in her hospital bed and once she recovers, she may be charged with the attempted murder of her seven-year-old daughter.

The girl's father woke up yesterday morning to find the mother unconscious in bed next to her vomiting daughter.

The pair was rushed to hospital in critical condition.

The woman has since regained consciousness, and Laval police Const. Nathalie Laurin said she will face criminal charges.

"She's guarded by police… 24 hours a day until she gets better, but that can take quite a few days," Laurin said, adding that at some point "she will appear in front of a judge but from her hospital bed."

Police are recommending the woman be charged with attempted murder, although that may be reduced to attempted manslaughter.

The girl's father and the woman's three sons are unharmed.
