A 23-year-old woman has been charged with stunt driving after police say she was caught driving almost twice the posted speed limit in Oakville, Ont., on the holiday weekend.

Halton Regional Police say that a vehicle was spotted driving at 119 km/h in a 60 km/h zone near Dundas Street West and Lion's Valley Park Road.

Police say the driver "accelerated and swerved" toward an officer that tried to get the vehicle to stop.

The officer jumped out of the way and was not struck. Police soon caught up with the driver and vehicle.

The driver, who is from Oakville, has been charged with stunt driving and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

The vehicle was impounded for a week, police say.
