Experts agree that in the last couple of decades, parents who have the means are investing more time and money in their children — during the years before they even begin kindergarten.

The Rug Rat Race — a week-long series looking at efforts to give children a head start — explores just what parents are doing to give their kids an early boost in life, and if a higher family income results in a better outcome for a child.

But first, CBC's Radio's Rick Cluff hears about the benefits of early childhood education.
