A teen girl has died after being struck by a dump truck in front of a Toronto school, The Toronto Star is reporting.

Toronto Emergency Medical Services say the 14-year-old was without vital signs when they arrived. Efforts to revive her failed.

The incident took place in front of Elia Middle School, just before 8 a.m., as students were returning for their first day back to school, police spokesman Victor Kwong told the National Post.

“The person calling it in said a dump truck struck a pedestrian and that a female was on the ground and not moving."

The school is located at Sentinel Rd. and Lamberton Blvd., in the city's northwest.

As CBC News reports, the incident comes on the first day of a back-to-school driving safety blitz conducted by Toronto police.
