Cocaine-dealing senior escapes jail time

A 72-year-old Shuswap, B.C. man has escaped jail time after pleading guilty to trafficking cocaine last year.

Robert Ehlert of Lee Creek was given a suspended sentence and 14 months' probation.

The Lee Creek man admitted to selling a small quantity of cocaine to an undercover police officer.

Supreme Court Justice Hope Hyslop says a jail term is unreasonable due to the fact that Ehlert is in remission for prostate cancer.
