Wild summer storm sweeps across Vancouver

A wild summer storm swept across the Lower Mainland Thursday night.

Thunderstorms and heavy rains pelted the Metro Vancouver area in the early evening.

Storms knocked out power across many areas, including main thoroughfares like Hastings Street in Burnaby.

At its height, more than 6,000 B.C. hydro customers were without power.

A lightning alert was also in effect at the Vancouver airport, causing many delayed or cancelled flights.

The storm subsided around 8 p.m. PT Thursday, leaving behind rainbows and a gorgeous sunset.
