3 killed in Vancouver Island car crash

Police say it's believed three people from the remote First Nation community of Ahousaht are dead after a crash near Port Alberni.

Police say the car was heading west on Highway 4 just before 4 p.m. PT yesterday when it left the road, rolled over and burst into flames.

“The vehicle that was involved in the collision was travelling with a second vehicle that was slightly ahead of them,” said RCMP Cpl. Jen Allan.

“They arrived in Tofino and were obviously quite concerned that the second vehicle didn’t arrive. The indication that we have as well is that they were all here in Port Alberni attending the fair that was held this weekend in town.”

The identities of the victims have not been released.

Allan says Highway 4 is open but there could be some delays as a result of the investigation and vehicle removal near Marion Creek.
