12.12.12., the documentary about Harvey Weinstein's massive $30 million-raising show for Hurricane Sandy relief which had its world premiere this week at TIFF, might be the flashiest and most celebrity-laden film about a benefit concert that has ever been released.

You can read our coverage of the 12.12.12 movie here, but it's certainly not the only one.

Whether it's the grassroot efforts of Canada's own Sarah Harmer against a quarry development on the Niagara Escarpment, or a star-studded assault against AIDS or nukes or famine, the charitable efforts of musicians have long proven to be irresistible to filmmakers.

There are, in fact, enough films about benefit concerts to make a proper sub-genre. So here are ten of our favourites from it.
