KELOWNA, B.C. - A debt-free Ballet Kelowna is ready to twirl into action.

The regional dance company based in Kelowna, B.C., says it is ready to announce its 2013-2014 season.

Just three productions will be staged during the coming season, including the traditional Christmas favourite, The Nutcracker.

Company president Deborah Ward says the shorter season, which includes a series of performances of Romeo and Juliet in January with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, is a conscious choice.

She says it's important that Ballet Kelowna stage a strong, affordable first season while it gauges the level of support from the region.

The company announced in February that it had to disband because of financial constraints but assistance from the community ensured the shows will go on. (CKFR)
