BOYLE, Alta. - A collision between a semi and a car on a northern Alberta road dubbed the Highway of Death has left one person dead.

The overnight crash happened on Highway 63, about 45 kilometres north of Boyle.

RCMP say the northbound car crossed into the oncoming lane and collided with the southbound semi.

The truck caught fire, but the driver was not harmed.

The driver of the car died at the scene, but police have not yet been able to identify the person.

Investigators don't believe alcohol played a role in the crash.
