Comox Valley RCMP say they’re recommending the 16-year-old boy be charged with failing to stop at the scene of an accident and dangerous driving causing bodily harm.
Police say they’ve seized the car believed to be involved and it’s currently being examined.
“While we have identified a suspect, we are continuing to gather information. We would like to thank those who have come forward and also ask that people continue to report any information which may pertain to this crime,” RCMP Const. Nicole Hall said in a written release.
“The victim remains in hospital at this time and our thoughts are with her and her family.”
The victim, whose name has not been released, was hit some time before 11:30 p.m. PT Wednesday on Comox Road, sometimes referred to as Dyke Road.
The crash knocked the woman off the road and into a nearby tidal marsh, where she was found several hours later by a teen riding his bike.
The woman was airlifted from St. Joseph's General Hospital in Comox to a hospital in Victoria.
