RCMP officers with rifles and sniffer dogs were seen outside a Richmond, B.C. home in what the force calls a "criminal investigation."

The RCMP's organized crime unit and the Lower Mainland Emergency Response Team searched the home on Seamount Drive on Friday afternoon.

About six houses, including a daycare, in the suburban residential area were evacuated at about 4 p.m. "out of an abundance of caution," said RCMP in a news release.

The Huffington Post B.C. has learned police were searching a rented basement suite. Neighbours said at least two men in their late '20s and a woman lived in the unit.

Officers entered the home without incident, and took one person into custody for questioning, said RCMP Cpl. Stephanie Ashton.

Ashton said she could not reveal many details because it's still an ongoing investigation.
